I'm still rummaging around in the storage shed, going through Mama's collections. I ran into a box full of these tumblers, each still in it's individual original box! There are nine of them, all in mint condition.

I did some research and discovered that these glasses were given to new customers by banks. Remember when banks gave toasters as incentives? The tumblers were the incentive gifts in the 1980's.

Now, I hated the 1980's (for my own personal reasons), but apparently Mama loved the banks in that era, because how else could she have collected these? Wait! I know! Mama had five sisters and I bet they ganged up on the banks (they were always helping each other get free stuff).

In two days, I have sold two of my vintage Tupperware items. It seems that vintage Tupperware is in demand! Don't miss out on this great Serve-It-All. It is a three piece set. The "plates" are 9.5" diameter and is perfect as a pie, cake, veggie, or desert server. The pedestal also doubles as a reversible "cup," which holds 7 ounces on one side and 12 ounces on the other side.
But she had a niece who traveled, and she returned with a souvenir for Mama each time. By the time she died in 1985, Mama had a fairly large collection of souvenirs from various states in the U. S. and European countries.

Having no family to pass it down to, I am offering for sale this lovely Kentucky souvenir demitasse cup and matching saucer for sale on my eCrater store. The colors are vibrant and there are no chips, cracks, or repairs. The set would be a nice addition for a collector.

This spring has been unusual in Folkston. By now the temperatures are usually soaring toward 100 degrees with humidity that makes the outdoors feel like a sauna. But this spring the temperatures have been mild with pleasant breezes and few insects.

In other words, the weather is perfect for picnics and/or outdoor dining. The Tupperware server pictured below is perfect for outings or patio cookouts. The lid can be filled with ice and the segmented compartment fits over it to keep veggies/relishes and dressing cool.
As I get older, I better understand her reasons. The sherbert glasses and matching saucers take me back to her dining table and wonderful deserts (only after our meal was eaten, of course!).

This set of four are in pristine condition, with the exception of one sherbert dish, which has flea bites around the lip. Each dish and saucer can be purchased separately if desired, but I strongly urge buying the entire lot.
I grew up in Alabama in the 1950's. There was no such thing as air conditioning, and in the summer the heat was unbearable. My daily treat was a Coca Cola my grandmother put in the freezer until it was icy.

Later the Coca Cola trays were reproduced. Whenever I see one, I am transported back to the days of my youth.

I am offering this tray on my eCrater store. Please have a look at it and the many vintage items I have listed. This week only I have reduced all listings by 10%, so hurry to my store for the savings!

I received this beautiful platter in 1965. It was a wedding gift and I was thrilled. But I had no way of knowing at the time that I would seldom use it (having married a cretin who knew about as much about entertaining as he knew about how to treat women!).

I am now offering it on eCrater at a very reasonable price. It is in excellent condition and would be a wonderful addition to a silver plate collection or to the elegant entertainer.

Browse my store. You'll find that most of my listings are vintage and in excellent condition!
But I have a wonderful legacy from her. Not only did she leave me with too many collectibles (hence the online selling), but she left me a great set of values which formed me into the person I am today.

For Mothers Day, I am offering a 1930s Nouveau Glass Light Cover with the original porcelain ceiling mount. I have no family to pass it down to and this vintage piece doesn't fit my decor, but it is lovely! Some mother would be delighted to receive it as a gift.

I have two of these if anyone wants them both, but because of weight and age, shipping cannot be combined.
Warm weather is upon us and it's time for picnics and cookouts. Unfortunately, where I live involves lots of insects, especially mosquitoes (let's not even talk about the fact that our one day per year of spring has come and gone). So we won't be doing picnics and cookouts.

I have a wonderful Tupperware super salad set which I have listed on eCrater - I certainly don't need it anymore! In addition, I have several other Tupperware items which are suitable for indoor or outdoor dining. All are vintage (over 20 years old), I am the original owner (now we're getting dangerously close to determining my age), and they are in really good condition.

Drop by my store - you may find something you really want or need. Browse to you heart's content. I always appreciate visitors and especially those who share my listings with friends.
I'm getting older, have no family to pass it down to, and trying to downsize, so I have listed it for sale on eCrater. I hope it finds a good home. It's over 100 years old and has been in my family since it was purchased new.
Please visit my store and browse. I have many vintage a few antique glass items listed.
When I was a kid, Mama made me take a spoonful of Cod Liver Oil every day, but instead of sugar, I got a spoonful of lemon juice to make the medicine go down.

I have a listing for a vintage silver plate toddler dinner set, which includes a spoon. This "spoonful" is the perfect spoon for toddlers, because it's small and rounded - the perfect size and shape for the little one learning to feed him/herself. Take a look at this and more vintage items at my eCrater store.
Our blog topic this week on ESN is frogs.

Now, not a single listing of mine has anything at all to do with frogs. Don't misunderstand me; I love frogs, especially the tree frogs we have here beside the Okefenokee Swamp. I just don't have anything for sale that relates in any way to frogs.

Some of my fellow members have items for sale which feature frogs and I encourage everyone to check them out.

For my store, all I can say is "If you feel froggy, jump, but don't bump your hind parts!" Jump to eCrater Sellers Network and browse all the wonderful items listed by our members (mine included). Your efforts will be rewarded.

I love to read! My tastes in literature are as eclectic as my tastes in music. Currently I am reading Spiral Dance by Star Hawk. Originally published in 1979, the subtitle is "A Rebirth of the Ancient Religion of the Great Goddess." I'm learning a lot about myself as a woman and nourishing my woman's soul by reading this book (which is saying a mouth full for an old woman)!

I have shelves and shelves of books ranging from fictional history, horror, and anthologies to women's studies, religions, recipes and crafting.

Horror, did I say? I'm very selective on that subject. My favorite author of horror is Stephen King, who has evolved into an author who, well yes, writes about some horrifying scenarios, but addresses good versus evil as I believe exist in our world and how they manifest in human behavior.

I also love to have the "bejesus" scared out of me! Reading The Exorcist while alone on vacation and staying in a cabin in the woods certainly did the trick! It was storming late one night as I was reading the climax (this was almost 40 years ago) and a crack of lightning and thunder sent me straight up out of my chair, out onto the porch, and I barely stopped myself from tearing outside into the storm! (I really get caught up in reading.) I was scared and I loved it!

I'm currently going through my book collection and "culling" those I'm willing to part with. I only have a couple of cookbooks offered on eCrater, but that will soon change. Having read my general tastes in literature, aren't you curious to see what I'll list? Keep an eye on my store. You just might be surprised (she said with a sly smile).

In the meantime, be sure to check out the great listings of books from eCrater sellers at eCrater Stores Network: www.ecrater.ning.com. There's so much to choose from!

My mama grew up in the country and had a sixth grade education. I don't ever recall her reading to me, but she made sure I went to school and learned to read, along with all the other subjects I wasn't interested in. I wanted to be outdoors - all the time - where it was peaceful. We lived on a small farm and I didn't even mind slopping the hogs or gathering eggs because no one was trying to get my attention.

When I was in grade school, no one had heard of ADD and I wasn't diagnosed until I was in my 30's. By then I had taught myself how to "tune out" distractions in order to earn a living, but I didn't become interested in reading until I started college at the tender age of 45. I developed a friendship with the director of food services at the college I was attending and he had his nose in a book whenever he had the time. Curious, I began to borrow his books, which were the latest best sellers, and began the amazing journey into the world of books. I found that his books were to my taste (mainly thriller mysteries, with interesting, intelligent characters), but soon I began to venture into other literary avenues as well. My tastes now run from historical fiction to murder mystries to horror and more.

I became a ravenous reader and ingested the tastiest items to be borrowed from my friend or the college library. I was also blessed with an English professor who mentored me, suggesting classics (Shakespeare and I became very well acquainted) as well as current authors of note. By the time I graduated with a B. A. degree, I was afraid I was going to have to rent a truck just for my book collection! I packed boxes and boxes and boxes of books when I moved.

Fortunately, I had been reading to my son, even before he was born (which drew some strange looks in the park where I had my lunch break), and to my surprise he took to it like a duck takes to water. And by the time I graduated from college, we found that we had similar tastes (even Shakespeare!) and often gifted each other with books. To my amusement and pleasure I introduced my son to Isaac Asimov and Stephen King. He just couldn't believe and old woman like me could be "cool" enough to like them both!

We were planning a trip to the library yesterday, but then remembered it's Friday and our town (I believe I've referred to our intelligent, highly ethical local government in the past) doesn't support the library well enough for it to be open on Friday any more. Oh well, there's always Monday. We can roam the aisles and peruse the computer catalog for new material. Maybe I'll read The Stand again. Or maybe a novel by Mauve Benchy. Who knows? Perhaps I'll discover a new writer I can't get enough of.

In the meantime, dear reader, check out eCrater Stores Network for great books! And keep an eye out as I begin to loosen my death grip (good grief, am I becoming a hoarder?) on the books stacked everywhere in my home!
I finished minutes ago writing my masterpiece blog about the joys of reading! My fingers fairly flew as I put the finishing touches to it. It was perfect: eloquent (without condescension), personable without being too personal, enlightening (without piety or pomposity)! I really outdid myself this time.

My finger fairly trembled as I attempted to add the finishing touch: a photo of a cookbook I offer for sale on my eCrater. Then it happened.... I lost the whole damn blog! I don't know if I can locate enough of the laptop to take to the repair shop, but it did make a satisfying crunching noise when it hit the wall.

And so, gentle reader, this is the best you are going to get tonight: check out the listings at eCrater Stores Network. Many of our sellers offer wonderful books. And at this point, reading will be much more satisfying to me than writing!

Here's your photo (maybe): Nope, no photo tonight, boys and girls! Hahahahahah!!!!! I must get control of myself!

It was so good.... Oh, it was so good.... Where the hell did it go? Must stop giggling hysterically.
I wonder if we readers realize what a luxury it is to have been educated to read. So many world wide cannot read and don't have access to public libraries. I am on a first name basis with the staff of our local library because I tell myself that not only am I saving money by not buying new books, I'm helping the environment by saving trees (what a saint I must be).

I love to read and my tastes vary widely. Since I began my online business, I've been too busy to read as much as I used to read and hope to have more time for reading and spend less time watching TV in the near future.

My stores only have two listings for books (both cookbooks), but when I picked up Belton's Favorite Recipes, I was transported back in time. The book was published in 1950, compiled by "W. S. C. S. of Belton, South Carolina." When I began to thumb through the book, I was delighted to find "table prayers," household hints (most surprisingly still valid!), beauty hints (one promising not to harm your "permanent wave" - it's been years since I heard that term!), wonderful anecdotes, ads for antiquated products (not a single ad for air conditioning) such as an ice and coal company and recipes, most of which today the medical community tells us is guaranteed to clog the arteries and induce diabetic comas within days!

I'm offering to sell this book, hoping that someone in the area of Belton, SC, will buy it. The many ads are for business which funded publication and many I'm sure are no longer operating. But wouldn't it be great to find such a book from the area where you grew up? Although I didn't grow up in Belton, so much of the cookbook reminded me of my home town back in the 1950's. As many of my blogs prove, I'm growing more nostalgic as my age progresses (which is none of your business, thank you very much!), and I so enjoyed stepping back into the time of my childhood. All because I can read!

The azaleas are in full bloom here. They are gorgeous! The jasmine will bloom soon and.... achoo! (Sorry, it's the pollen.) As I was saying, the jasmine will soon fill the air with its sweet scent and .... achoo - damn pollen! Now, where was I? Oh yes, the wonders of spring here in deep south Georgia: our cars are covered in pollen at the end of each day and we're already running the central air. You see, we have two seasons here: a long, long, hot summer and a short, short winter. We have spring and fall, too, but only one day for each. But I digress.

When the earth begins to bring forth new foliage and things begin to turn green, I grow nostalgic. Since I have been going through the treasures my grandmother left to me, I have been thinking about how I viewed so many of them when I was young and how I see them now. When I was growing up, I thought of many of her things as tacky and cheap (for example, the Chantilly Rose tray pictured above) because they were "old fashioned." We were poor and I thought of her display pieces as reminders that we couldn't buy new stuff. I am amazed to realize that I was a snob of sorts and that her collections are wonderful! And I didn't realize how much had been passed down from her mother.

This brings me to my point about nostalgia. I won't be selling some of her pieces even though I have no one to leave them to. The pieces I am keeping bring warm nostalgic feelings and memories of Mama (my grandmother, who also raised me), going home for weekend visits, and special occasions when we used vintage glass serving pieces. When I think of how casual I was when I washed those vintage pieces, it scares me half to death!

Parting with most of Mama's collection isn't easy, but having no descendants to whom I can leave them, I hope that purchasers will care for them and enjoy them. And perhaps they will bring wonderful memories to some!

Now if I could just get to the mailbox and back without choking to death on the pollen on this wonderful spring day (the temperature is already in the high 80's). Oh yes, spring has come and gone! It's summer now down here.

This lovely porcelain egg is perfect for the onset of spring. The floral and butterfly motif represent the return of life and beauty that spring brings to us. It's beauty is enhanced by its age, having been produced in 1974 for Avon.

And what woman doesn't dream of the fertility the egg represents?
How I long for the by-gone days when every encounter with my husband
held the promise of another wonderful, loving child who would be perfect
in every way and never grow into a snarling mass of raging hormones in
puberty - not!

There are no chips, cracks, repairs or discernible flaws, except that there is a small amount of wear to the 22K band around the lid. The egg is very clean inside with no stains.

Wouldn't this be a wonderful Easter gift for someone special? Or maybe a treat for yourself to lift your spirits after the hard winter most of us have been through.
I had (against my doctors recommendations) been earning nearly $40,000 annually, had a healthy 401K and was living very comfortably. My doctor didn't seem to understand that I still believed I was invincible although I was in my 50's, so I ignored his advice and continued work that all but destroyed my spine. No self-pity; I did this to myself. The previous is just to explain why I can't hold a "regular" full-time job.

I began an online business some time back, when the local library (my only means of web access) was open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Thursday and from 10 a.m. to noon each Friday. With government cut-backs and small town financial mismanagement (er, I meant to say small town government stealing - no, no, no, I .... oh never mind!), the library no longer opens on Friday. But during the glory days when it was open Monday through Thursday and half of Friday, people with library cards were allowed to use the eight antiquated computers which offered Internet access. There was, however, a catch: each person was allowed one hour Internet access and if others were waiting, first online would be bumped and had to go to the back of the line of waiting "patrons" if he/she wished to continue to access the Internet. As more people became unemployed, the line of people waiting became steadily longer until most days I left the library rather than go to the back of the line to wait out the rest of the day.

Then I began to sell (people who still had jobs still wanted stuff!) items and was able to purchase a laptop and Internet service in my home. Oh, happy day! Now I could work at my own pace without rushing and in a chair that didn't make me want to scream in pain within 15 minutes of beginning my work day. Nirvana! Comfort, rest when needed, convenience, clean bathrooms - what more could I ask?

So began the creeping, insidious process of becoming "self-employed." When I began selling online, I was totally oblivious to the time, energy and sheer determination required to sell enough to supplement my Social Security Disability (the 401K was partially eaten by the one year wait while unemployed before I could even file for Social Security, and most of my fellow countrymen know what happened to the rest).

But enough of my medical and financial woes, at least as they pertain to what brought me to online selling! Months ago I decided it was time to begin the dreaded process of cleaning out and straightening my storage shed. The shed is fairly small and it would seem from the outside that the process would be simple, easy and fairly quick. But I had forgotten that the men in my life had put most of what was in the shed without my supervision. I had baby clothes and toys from when my only child was a toddler 32 years ago. I had boxes and boxes of collectibles my grandmother had left me when she died in 1985. I had furniture which wouldn't fit into my home when I "downsized" piled on top of the boxes and toys. When I opened the double doors to the shed, it threw up - all over the yard! I had no choice in how to begin; I started in the yard. For days (always praying that the Great Spirit would not let it rain until I at least had everything off the grass and onto the back porch) I dragged boxes to the porch and began unpacking and sorting into what I assumed would be three categories: display in my home, Goodwill, and online selling.

I am allowed to live with 5 indoor cats. It didn't take long before I realized that "display" meant "oh look: something new to knock off! I wonder if it will shatter?" to those beasts whom I had formerly regarded as loving, benevolent companions. The little darlings explored anything new to shards! I furiously thought out my options: 1. kill the darlings, 2. give it all to Goodwill and be done with it, or 3. sell what was of value and give the rest to Goodwill. After giving much contemplation to #1, and many tender moments with anywhere from one to four of the beasts in my lap gazing lovingly into my eyes, I admitted defeat and chose door #3.

I have spent five months separating, cataloging, and carting boxes to Goodwill and that damn shed is still full! My best guess is that the possums and raccoons are repacking everything at night while I sleep the exhausted sleep of the overworked 65 year old woman who has spent all day on the computer trying to learn a new trade.

Who knew how much stuff Mama had left me? Who knew it was out there? Who knew how to find it under all that junk? But most importantly, who knew that work would go from an hour a day, Monday through Friday to ten hours a day, 7 days a week? I always knew I was a Type A (a term I'm sure is antiquated, but I don't have time to research it online), but this had become ridiculous!

So I've decided to give myself the weekends off. My son (who is also disabled and lives with me, God help him!) has been out of town, but when he returns the plan is that he will hide the laptop and the key to the shed in his room (a room I'm afraid to enter, because he is, after all, a man and God only knows what shape that room is in!) each weekend. It's the only plan we could formulate to keep me sane (though I fear it is too late, my pretty!) and allow me time to relax (who could relax, knowing there might be something in that shed worth millions?) and rest (rest? who could rest, knowing that shed still holds undiscovered treasures?). We're going to give it a try. My son is fairly large, at 6'3" and 210 lbs., but I worry that he won't be able to fight me off when the obsession is on me!

For the love of heaven, people, buy from my stores and save me from myself!
I was not pleased when she left it to me when she passed away in 1985. It's one of the few things she left to me that I didn't care for. I hate to part with most of the other items I have listed, but I just don't have the display space for it all and I need the money. But I look forward to selling this vase and getting it out of my home!

I don't know why I don't like it. Perhaps it jumped out of a dark corner and frightened me when I was a small child. Maybe it made dark threats when no one was around to hear. Is a malevolent ancestral spirit inhabit it? Seriously, though, it does almost give me the creeps!

So for the love of heaven, would someone please buy this vase so I don't have to look at it anymore!
Struggling financially can make us forget to not only take care of ourselves, it can make us forget how to pamper ourselves from time to time.

Sometimes the relatively small purchase of a vintage item brings great joy by reminding us of good times in our pasts. I have been going through a treasure trove of vintage items my mom left to me when she passed in 1985. Originally my intention was to sell everything in an effort to downsize because I don't have enough space to display it all. But I have decided to keep a few items that bring back great memories of her and her home where I grew up. It's my way of pampering myself.

There are plenty of vintage glass, china, souvenirs, etc., left to sell. So visit my eCrater store. Maybe you will see something to pamper yourself and bring back your own good memories!
But I am making changes, hopefully for the better. As an online seller and web-challenged as well, I have realized that I have been very inconsistent in listing my store name, social links and my store link. So now, hopefully, I have the correct business name on everything.

This business name was selected with the help of my online selling mentor. I believe it's wonderful (of course I do - it's my store name!) and I want to share it: Something4Myself.

My store offers vintage collectibles, antique glass, antique and vintage china, vintage pottery, and some eclectic items. All are of the very best quality possible and are lovingly cared for and packaged for shipment. Visit http://4myself.ecrater.com today!
I'm amazed at the amount of work necessary to be a successful online seller! So for support I joined a site: Online Sellers. Because of this choice, I am having more success promoting my online business.

Visit my store, Something 4 Myself at http://4myself.ecrater.com to view my listings. I have many vintage items which came to me when my mom died in 1985. I also scour yard sales, estate sales and flea markets and add to my listings on an ongoing basis.
Christmas is just around the corner. No one needs reminders that we have to finish up our shopping. Why not give a nostalgic gift to remind friends or relatives (or give a gift to yourself!) of an antique piece of glass like the one always displayed in Grandma's house? Or maybe vintage pottery, china, souvenirs!
There is so much more to browse. Visit Something 4 Myself to check out the wide variety of items being offered for sale.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02983835207302247358noreply@blogger.com0
