Vintage French Lead Crystal "Princess Grace" Tumblers

I'm still rummaging around in the storage shed, going through Mama's collections.  I ran into a box full of these tumblers, each still in it's individual original box!  There are nine of them, all in mint condition.  

I did some research and discovered that these glasses were given to new customers by banks.  Remember when banks gave toasters as incentives?  The tumblers were the incentive gifts in the 1980's.  

Now, I hated the 1980's (for my own personal reasons), but apparently Mama loved the banks in that era, because how else could she have collected these?  Wait!  I know!  Mama had five sisters and I bet they ganged up on the banks (they were always helping each other get free stuff).

Vintage Almond Tupperware Serve-It-All

In two days, I have sold two of my vintage Tupperware items.  It seems that vintage Tupperware is in demand!  Don't miss out on this great Serve-It-All.  It is a three piece set.  The "plates" are 9.5" diameter and is perfect as a pie, cake, veggie, or desert server.  The pedestal also doubles as a reversible "cup," which holds 7 ounces on one side and 12 ounces on the other side.

There is slight damage on the outside lip of one of the plates.  Because of this, I have
reduced the price.  So hurry before someone else snaps it up!

My Mama's Collection

By the time Mama could afford to travel, she didn't want to.  But she had a niece who traveled, and she returned with a souvenir for Mama each time.  By the time she died in 1985, Mama had a fairly large collection of souvenirs from various states in the U. S. and European countries.

Having no family to pass it down to, I am offering for sale this lovely Kentucky souvenir demitasse cup and matching saucer for sale on my eCrater store.  The colors are vibrant and there are no chips, cracks, or repairs.  The set would be a nice addition for a collector.

Vintage Tupperware Divided Vegetable/Relish Server

This spring has been unusual in Folkston.  By now the temperatures are usually soaring toward 100 degrees with humidity that makes the outdoors feel like a sauna.  But this spring the temperatures have been mild with pleasant breezes and few insects.

In other words, the weather is perfect for picnics and/or outdoor dining.  The Tupperware server pictured below is perfect for outings or patio cookouts.  The lid can be filled with ice and the segmented compartment fits over it to keep veggies/relishes and dressing cool. 

What Reminds Me of Mama

Mama loved carnival glass and vintage glass.  As I get older, I better understand her reasons.  The sherbert glasses and matching saucers take me back to her dining table and wonderful deserts (only after our meal was eaten, of course!).

This set of four are in pristine condition, with the exception of one sherbert dish, which has flea bites around the lip.  Each dish and saucer can be purchased separately if desired, but I strongly urge buying the entire lot.

Beauty for the Eyes and Ears

This lovely vintage piano-shaped music box is so pretty to look at.  It also plays "Evergreen."  It's in excellent condition and I would love for it to have a good home.

Coca Cola in the South

I grew up in Alabama in the 1950's.  There was no such thing as air conditioning, and in the summer the heat was unbearable.  My daily treat was a Coca Cola my grandmother put in the freezer until it was icy.

Later the Coca Cola trays were reproduced.  Whenever I see one, I am transported back to the days of my youth.

Silver Plate Platter

I received this beautiful platter in 1965.  It was a wedding gift and I was thrilled.  But I had no way of knowing at the time that I would seldom use it (having married a cretin who knew about as much about entertaining as he knew about how to treat women!). 

I am now offering it on eCrater at a very reasonable price.  It is in excellent condition and would be a wonderful addition to a silver plate collection or to the elegant entertainer.

Something 4 My Mother

My mom is gone, many years now.  But I have a wonderful legacy from her.  Not only did she leave me with too many collectibles (hence the online selling), but she left me a great set of values which formed me into the person I am today.

For Mothers Day, I am offering a 1930s Nouveau Glass Light Cover with the original porcelain ceiling mount.  I have no family to pass it down to and this vintage piece doesn't fit my decor, but it is lovely!  Some mother would be delighted to receive it as a gift.

I have two of these if anyone wants them both, but because of weight and age, shipping cannot be combined.

Patio and Outdoor Dining

Ahhh!  Warm weather is upon us and it's time for picnics and cookouts.  Unfortunately, where I live involves lots of insects, especially mosquitoes (let's not even talk about the fact that our one day per year of spring has come and gone).  So we won't be doing picnics and cookouts.

I have a wonderful Tupperware super salad set which I have listed on eCrater - I certainly don't need it anymore!  In addition, I have several other Tupperware items which are suitable for indoor or outdoor dining.  All are vintage (over 20 years old), I am the original owner (now we're getting dangerously close to determining my age), and they are in really good condition.

I remember Mama using this bowl to serve relishes at special holiday meals.  I'm getting older, have no family to pass it down to, and trying to downsize, so I have listed it for sale on eCrater.  I hope it finds a good home.  It's over 100 years old and has been in my family since it was purchased new.

The Late-Blooming Eclectic Reader

My mama grew up in the country and had a sixth grade education.  I don't ever recall her reading to me, but she made sure I went to school and learned to read, along with all the other subjects I wasn't interested in.  I wanted to be outdoors - all the time - where it was peaceful.  We lived on a small farm and I didn't even mind slopping the hogs or gathering eggs because no one was trying to get my attention. 

When I was in grade school, no one had heard of ADD and I wasn't diagnosed until I was in my 30's.  By then I had taught myself how to "tune out" distractions in order to earn a living, but I didn't become interested in reading until I started college at the tender age of 45.  I developed a friendship with the director of food services at the college I was attending and he had his nose in a book whenever he had the time.  Curious, I began to borrow his books, which were the latest best sellers, and began the amazing journey into the world of books.  I found that his books were to my taste (mainly thriller mysteries, with interesting, intelligent characters), but soon I began to venture into other literary avenues as well.  My tastes now run from historical fiction to murder mystries to horror and more.

I became a ravenous reader and ingested the tastiest items to be borrowed from my friend or the college library.  I was also blessed with an English professor who mentored me, suggesting classics (Shakespeare and I became very well acquainted) as well as current authors of note.  By the time I graduated with a B. A. degree, I was afraid I was going to have to rent a truck just for my book collection!  I packed boxes and boxes and boxes of books when I moved.

Fortunately, I  had been reading to my son, even before he was born (which drew some strange looks in the park where I had my lunch break), and to my surprise he took to it like a duck takes to water.  And by the time I graduated from college, we found that we had similar tastes (even Shakespeare!) and often gifted each other with books.  To my amusement and pleasure I introduced my son to Isaac Asimov and Stephen King.  He just couldn't believe and old woman like me could be "cool" enough to like them both!

We were planning a trip to the library yesterday, but then remembered it's Friday and our town (I believe I've referred to our intelligent, highly ethical local government in the past) doesn't support the library well enough for it to be open on Friday any more.  Oh well, there's always Monday.  We can roam the aisles and peruse the computer catalog for new material.  Maybe I'll read The Stand again.  Or maybe a novel by Mauve Benchy.  Who knows?  Perhaps I'll discover a new writer I can't get enough of.

Changes, Challenges and Resistance

Being human, I resist change! But I am making changes, hopefully for the better.
